NL400 3-handed 200xBB deep
One of PokerRoom's private tables. Villain and I played HU for a while before someone sat down and it become 3-handed. We played one big pot which went down like this:
I have AQ in the BB and 3-bet his raise of 17 to 50 and he calls. Flop is AJx and I bet 65 and he calls pretty quickly. Turn is T and I check-raise him all-in for what he has left and he turns over KQ for a gutshot float that hit. After that I have won everything back by grinding small pots and making some plays, running fairly well and not showing a lot of hands. Villain was on tilt for a few hands where he 3-bet almost every hand for maybe 20 hands and has been playing fairly calm and tight after our third guy sat down. The third guy is a bad lagro donkey who has been hitting some cards. For some reason after the game became 3-handed Villains standard raise has been 2xBB. He hasn't been raising a lot. Stacks: Hero ($797) Villain ($820) Random donkey ($150) Hero is BB w/ A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]: Villain opens to 8, Donkey calls, I 3-bet to 32 and both call. Flop (96): 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Donkey checks, I bet 70, Villain calls and Donkey folds. Turn (236): 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] I bet 150 and Villain calls. River (536): 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] I shove 545. I think I should have bet atleast 200 on the turn, but other than that does this look standard? |

Re: NL400 3-handed 200xBB deep
I don't necessarily like the river shove. I think a $150 value bet would've been ideal, maybe induce a call if he thinks your blocking.
Pushing just telegraphs your hand, the only thing that is gonna look you up is a boat. I'd also fold to a raise here. Ah and boats beat you, which are both possibilities. |

Yuck - the river shove is no good. You will never get paid off here IMO. If you like living dangerously, checking the river could work to induce a bluff - betting small could work but is painfully obvious. Your line is great if you had picked up a full house somewhere along the way.
You *might* fold out the A of hearts - I doubt it very much, as people almost never draw and then re-evaluate after they make their hand. |

Re: NL400 3-handed 200xBB deep
I shoved the river because I don't like in general betting less than the pot if it's a bet that completely commits me to the pot. I agree that the stack sizes are akward and I should have made a bigger turn bet to make a river shove more natural.
I have no idea why you would think I'm bluffing. It's 3-handed for christs sake! I think that folding the river with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] or T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] would be a mistake against me as there's a good chance I could be shoving with air. I think I have the image for this too. |

Re: NL400 3-handed 200xBB deep
You really need to push harder on the turn. It's much too easy for him to continue with one pair.
On the river... you're letting him get away with worse hands far too easy (unless you know he likes to make big calls). I'd much rather make a $225 bet and hope he makes a crying call (or comes over the top w/ J:heart) |

I'm thinking the A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] is more likely to do this than that J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Then again, knowing me i'd still call his shove. |

Re: NL400 3-handed 200xBB deep
Your image is that you four-barrel bluff 200 BBs? That's a hell of an image. The J or T of hearts may call, but only because Villain decided he's calling down your bluff on the turn. In the long run calling down with a T high one card flush on a paired board is unlikely to be a profitable play. I'd like this play more if the board weren't paired.

Re: NL400 3-handed 200xBB deep
While your chances of taking this pot down are relatively high, pushing first on the river is honestly the worst move you could've made for reasons stated by other posters + you don't give villain a chance to bet/bluff at it either. I think a value bet would've been the most +EV move.
Out of curiosity- what possible hand(s) did you put the villain on? |
