How to become an overnight guru: Win one (1) televised tournament
Okay, seriously. WTF is up with the people that donkey their way into a first place finish on TV. Apparently, (I am being mildy facetious and exaggerating a little here) when you take down a televised tournament, you are given your own monthly article in some poker magazine, you get to strut around in some sort of BoDog gear, and, you are widely recognized as a "good" player by the public, and, you are given mostly undue respect from the poker-novice-masses.
I mean, it's like the Chris Moneymaker effect....Okay, now I can agree Chris was great for poker, but come on, let's get real. Everytime someone wins a tournament these days it seems that I have to see their donkey face everywhere I turn. Okay, that's a little harsh, because a lot of guys that have taken down WSOP and WPT events have been solid. But then again, their have been plenty of people who walked the gauntlet blindfolded and somehow wound up with a $1,000,000 payday and overnight credibility. |

I actually have no idea who you are talking about.
They're probably drinking coffee, and smoking big cigars! |

Or in Clonie Gowen's case, win one ladies only event and you are a guru.

If I ever win a televised event I plan on starting one of those Cults where the Guru gets all the girls.

Re: How to become an overnight guru: Win one (1) televised tournament
i think a lot of people assume that a person's playing style on the final table is the same as how they played for the majority of the tournament. therefore, i don't know if we can gather enough info on a person and their play by watching a WPT episode.

Re: How to become an overnight guru: Win one (1) televised tournament
that's because the game promoters (TV producers, Casino, etc) have a vested interest in exploiting the "15 seconds of glory" (Andy Warhole) for their own commercial benefit to keep the suckers, I mean players & fans :-) , coming in the door. This has been at the expense of the pros & full time players who can't figure it all out. Yet??
