Top Five Events of Your Time
What are the top five most important events of your time here on Earth? And the events should be on a worldwide level...in other words, the birth of your son isn't in there, and either is the day that you hit the lottery.
These should be events that shook the world since you were born, and everyone took notice on a global level. Here is how you should answer: 1. Year you were born 2. Top Five Events of your time 3. Discuss I am really more interested in the discussion part.... I can't narrow down my five yet. I was born in 1970, and can think of a few things: 1. Fall of the Berlin Wall 2. Tsunami 3. End of Cold War (event or culmination of events?) 4. World Trade Center Bombings 5. My problem is that I can't get away from things that are only important to me from an Americanized point of view...and I would love if every "event" was on a specific day, but most are the culmination of a long period of events. |

Re: Top Five Events of Your Time
How can the tsunami be in two top5s already? This was a localized and, on a historical scale, minor disaster.

Re: Top Five Events of Your Time
1975
1) Fall of the Soviet Bloc & USSR 2) Genocide in Rwanda 3) Challenger explodes 4) Contras in Nicaragua 5) The rise of computers / computer chips 1) caused the end of an era, and a realignemnt of world powers. it signaled greater freedom for half a continent, but what are the other consequence is still being decided 2) genocide, again? i don't think most people realize how many people have been killed due to their ethnicity after WWII... there was also the Khmer Rouge, but that was more getting killed form being educated / social status 3) made the world re-think what we want to do in space 4) Signaled to the world how many innocent people the US is willing to kill due to its paranoia over communism 5) Changed our life in many ways. I think mostly about numerical methods, but that's just my own point of view |

[/ QUOTE ] If by global response, you mean that 99% of everyone has forgotten it even happened less than two years later, then yes. |
