cheating issues
there is a subject that people do not speak about that much, that is the subject of cheating on the net.
now imagine you have a few friends, lets say 8 for the example, you log to a 10 handed table. each one of you is in a different location, but you communicate lets say via messenger. when the flop comes, instead of caluclating your odds with 47 unseen cards, thanks to your friends, there are only 31 unseen cards. (52 minus 3 for the flop, minus 18 (you and your 8 friends). it seems to me that it gives your team an enormous edge over the lonely player, joining happily an almost full table... I dont see how poker site can protect their customers against that kind of people, therefore is it really a good thing to play on the internet. if an expert could give is opinion about that issue i would greatly appreciate. Marc. |

Re: cheating issues
It is a very strange first post.
But to answer you,you think a poker site won't pick up on the fact that all these so called friends are always playing with eachother.Poker sites have their ways to detect cheaters on line more so than B&M. You see there is always proof on line,as there is not always proof in a B&M casino. |

Re: cheating issues
i know it is my first post, and i am glad i tried. the answer are coming so quick... (thank you by the way)
but i have been playing poker for two years, and i asked myself that question for a little while. i really do not see what kind of technique a site could use to stop people from doing that, how could they prove anything... and you can go to another site if they throw you out, or change your nickname, take a new credit card... the thing is that i prefer to play in casinos for that matter, but where i come from (switzerland) there are almost none... |

Re: cheating issues
This could potentially happen once or twice. But all poker sites have methods to detect players who play with each other all the time. It wouldn't last long.
I don't see this type of cheating as being very profitable either. 8 guys in a 10 handed table and let's say they all start with $100 and split all the profits. Having only 2 players to fleece, there isn't much profit per player after it's split 8 ways. I just don't see it happening much. I wouldn't worry about this. |

Re: cheating issues
Cheating is the main deterrant for many would be on line players. There is a valid need to be aware of the issue. The sites have their ways to detect and experienced poker players also are very observant to anything suspicious. It is safer to play on line than in a live casino because of the certain proof one has at hand compared to a live casino.
Cheating goes on for sure it does but not that rampant as you may be afraid of. |

Re: cheating issues
At any table I sit at online the players are flying in and out of their seats as if they can only play 10 hands at the same table.

Re: cheating issues
Collusion, done right, can be EXTREMELY profitable. But first you would need to understand and play poker well enough to be able to win without it. But given that, let's say you play on three computers (separate connections thru the phone, DSL, and cable). Simply just knowing not to call with your worst hand will save tons. example: you have AQ one hand, and JJ on the other. You're in against one other player and a Q flops. The JJ can now safely fold without a second thought. This is subtle and undetectable and unprovable even if there's suspicion.
If stuff like this makes or saves each of your 'guys' 1BB per 100 and you were already making 1BB/100, well you just doubled your winrate. And at the higher levels, the player base is relatively small so it's not unusual to have 3 of the same guys playing each other a lot. And to be safe you could set up 6 accounts and just have 3 or 2 of them playing in any game randomly. So my response is it is very easy and profitable to cheat online. I myself don't do it but I think there are a lot more ZZjustins and jjprodigy's out there than we suspect. Fortunately, most of them probably suck and collude very ineffectively. |

Re: cheating issues
Has anyone seen or purchased the "cheating software" from pokersystem? If this software really works it could destroy the online poker world.
