My sister's quasi-fiance is a cheap $%@#*!

I just got off the phone with my sister. She and her bf of 3 years (who she hopes will ask her to marry him) are visiting us in Arizona on Memorial Day for a few days. From here they want to go to LV and will stay Tues-Fri. She tells me that they are staying at either Luxor or MGM but he likes Luxor better because it's $10/night cheaper during the week. I said Luxor is nice but I'd pick MGM myself. She then tells me that both places charge much more for Fri night (surprise!) and that he is trying to find another, cheaper place just for that one night! I blurt out 'That cheap %$##%^%$#$! wants to change hotels just for one night to save ~$100 or so?' and she almost started to cry because I insulted her bf. This is the same guy that always lets me pick up the dinner check and makes my sister pay her own way when they go on vacation even though he makes much more than she does.

I officially don't like him at all anymore. Should I just keep my mouth shut, try to get her to dump him, or tell him he's a cheap $#%%$#%$! to his face?

This isn't being cheap, this is just who he is. Some people mkae every effort to get value for their money. Maybe it's not really about saving money but it's an aversion to spending excessively, a quirk, if that makes sense to you. Either way, if you judge him on his willingness to throw money around then I feel sorry for you, and for the happy couple that has to put up with you.

He had some good government job for 20 years, lived alone, invested well and now manages his money. He's got 2 homes and is set for life financially.
