Default Messy 99, 5/10

I raise UTG with 99, 6 handed.

Folds to BB who calls.

Flop comes J105.

He bets, I call.

Turn comes 4.

He bets, I ?

Should I raise the flop or fold. Turn same question.

River is a 9, bingo.

He bets, I raise, he reraises? Should I cap? Earlier, he donk bets my UTG raise with j8 when I have AQ on a J22 flop (AJ calls him down as well).

In this situation, I would chk/call all the way unless you improve. It is entirely reasonable that he hit a J or T on the flop so you don't want to raise him and be forced to fold to a three bet. Guys will typically donk here with A high, any pair, any draw, or any two cards (in some cases).

So I think the 99 is too strong to fold unless the turn/river bring like AK. In your situation though, hitting the 99 on the river warrants a cap if this guy has proven to you he can be aggressive on the river without the nuts. Without any info on the guy, I think you have to just call the three bet.

But, I could be wrong... I'm still just a 3/6 junkie...

If the flop is rainbow, I'd normally drop it there if BB is reasonable.

Raise the flop. The whole rest of the hand plays out differently. At that point, the villain could easily have been betting into on a draw (str8 draw? Have no idea if he has a flush) or a 5 often enough that the raise is for value. Plus, it's an oppurtunity to take a free showdown.

Raise the flop
check the turn (If it's checked to you)
call the river.

The way you played it, you should fold the turn.

The way you played the turn, just call the three bet on the river.

I guess I'm the only one who votes for a flop raise (it's not the first time I've advocated aggression alone).

I always post blind but I'm wondering what you guys think of my line? Aren't we ahead enough on this flop that we can do this profitably or am I just being a maniac?

I like the flop raise. If 3 bet and he leads the turn you can fold. Otherwise I keep the pressure on.

From the hands I saw, he was a known donk better but the blinds had only been around 1 time. Then again, I was willing to check call down since it was HU. I hadn't seen him raise PF nor had I seen any other moves but donk betting into the raiser (me as a previously stated).

BB had J5, he told me "You drew to 2 outs!"

Why would we want to do this? If he's ballsy enough to donk-semibluff the flop, he'll usually keep firing on the turn. We'll still be pushed off the best hand occasionally, but we'll just pay an extra SB.

To the OP: Suits are pretty important here, but I'd generally just fold the flop. This isn't a very good board for him to semi-bluff at, since you'll frequently have 2 overs and gutshot. If the flop is rainbow, he's less likely to be betting a strong draw since your hand reduces a good number of the OESD combos.
