I 9-table and I've never used any tools. I'm sure they would help, but I just haven't invested yet. So from my experience, not "essential".

I find PA to be useless, distracting, and borderline cheating. You definately don't need it to play the $11's or $22's.

Pokertracker is slow and clumsy, but at least it imports sngs now.

i think they are essential for playing well playing 8 table. Nobody else agrees. Either I make better use of it, or I am delusional. you pick
