Default Gay Olympics

Just found out about this from a coworker. Apparently, the Gay Games are coming to Montreal soon. For more information look here and here. Essentially, it is an athletic event for gay people only.

I don't really understand the point of this. Being gay isn't a disability that prevents you from participating in regular Olympic events. I am all for celebrating your ethnicity/sexual orientation/etc., but this whole concept seems attention-whorish to me.

Anyone else want to weigh in on the matter?

On a sidenote, I am not in the slightest bit homophobic. I would feel equally baffled at a 'Black Chess Championship' or something similar.

I think the original Olympics topped it, though.

I dunno, they might just look like regular javelins but I'll check.
