My first ever AA limp....
It did what I wanted it to do, but I'm never doing it again.

Re: My first ever AA limp....
Preflop it went about as good as you could have hoped. To bad you just didn't win. I mean if you are with a table full of donks that will push preflop with the bb at 40 then limping w/ AA is always a reasonable play, just doesn't mean you should do it all the time. Either way it's good to mix up your play everyonce in a while.

Re: My first ever AA limp....
I was just scared of the entire table folding, cause I hadn't played a hand yet...if you're playing at a reasonably tight table, is this ever a good move? This was at a Pokerstars 16 dollar sit and go, so not the highest quality of players, however the main thing I look at when making this move is the likely that there will be another raise, giving me the opportunity to re-raise.

Re: My first ever AA limp....
I think the presence of a limper ahead of you makes this -ev compared to raising.

Re: My first ever AA limp....
This is a correct play if the table has been active. Players min raising/raising etc. If the table has been 7/8 callers/limpers then you would need to raise it.
No matter what way you played this hand QQ was always going to reraise you thus allowing you to get it in Pre Flop plus you had the AQo totally dominated for an extra 33% of chips. Just a pity they did not hold up. |

Limping aces with blinds at 10/20 makes me want to barf.

From that early of position limping aces with the intention of hopefully having someone raise you so that you can raise them back is a good idea. I would do it in a cash game almost all of the time. |

Although I don't do it often it sometimes is the better play as it was here. [/ QUOTE ] It most certainly wasn't the better play here. Hero just got lucky that somebody had premium cards to raise for him. Most of the time he would have gotten lots of limpers along for the ride and then been in a terrible spot. If hero raises 3BB, AQ or QQ villains will assuredly re-raise, and then he'd gotten his pf all-in as well. So in this exact case you gain nothing from the limp. And in most cases you'll be in a heap of trouble. Edit: cash games are a very different animal to SNG's. So it might be profitable there. |
