Serious Mixed Game in Vegas Question

so i've seen a few threads in here about mixed 4/8 games @ wynn and other places.

i've spoken with the poker room manager about the possible interest, and he said he'd spread any game with an interest enough to fill a game, period.

our room is really nice, but small. i'm trying to brainstorm (again, this is in the idea phase) what kind of mixed game may succeed here.

the best i can come up with is something like a 3/6 or 4/8 SHOP game. this would obviously consist of stud, hold 'em, omaha high, and pineapple (either variety).

you could change it to SHOT (dropping pineapple and adding triple draw, but i don't know that would draw as much interest) also.

one of my very close friends is a dealer here, and he thinks that if this game got started with any kind of following that it would succeed because it would be a rare find in town.

the good news is that our casino is just off the strip, but also close enough to Southern Highlands (an affluent suburb) that the action just may be good enough for serious low limit players to give it a shot.

what are 2+2's thoughts? any interest at all? any suggestions on how to make the initial idea better?

Id probably make a trip occasionally off the beaten path if I was sure there was a lowlimit mix game going consistenly....

....the only other place I seen it going with any type of consistency wa the MGM a couple months ago

The older locals might be interested in the Omaha or Stud version of this. Since its the Silverton, which is a nice place, doesn't cater to higher end play so yes, the 3/6 or 4/8 would be a viable option. I've seen several smaller rooms try to spread variations of HORSE, SHOP, ect.. and they usually last a few weeks with mostly other poker room dealers showing up and getting tired of the novelty very quickly.

Mixed games these days a hard to keep going in the lower limits---
Aladdin had a great mixed game( holdem, Omaha Hi. Razz, stud, Omaha hi/lo then a 2-7 draw at the end--
flop games were 5/10 --- razz and stud was a spread to 10 and 2-7 was a 5-20 spread--- ran a few months-- was greast----but things happened and it went away-----

the limit and spread mix of the alladin game really made me hate it. Also, the ten handed table was not that great. I think a key would be to try a very simple rotation. Three games, maybe four.
Stud, Omaha 8, and holdem. And keep your tables 8 handed.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE stud 8, but it isn't going to get a great following - and the novilty of razz wears off.
Start a simple three game rotation and you will find a lot of locals who want to play stud, without not playing holdem.

The other key is to find a really good ante structure for the limit you decide. 1-5 spread limit with a dollar ante is not good. If the holem rounds are 4-8, so should the stud rounds. Maybe use half dollars and make it a fifty cent ante with a two dollar bring in. Something to play for, without the ante being so high it dries the game up before it can bet a good base of players.
Or 6-12 with a dollar ante and 3 dollar bring in. A bit higher relitively, but it might be easier for the game if you have one less unit of measure on the table.

i think you create a base game of omaha 8, stud, hold em and then allow the players to alter the game according to interest (if the players want to add razz they add razz).

I also think if the casino did it 1 specific night a week it could last... so every thursday they run a 4/8 mix game...

js, the Aladdin did just that. Allowed the players to adjust the games, and it ran tuesday nights at 7pm till the next morning usually. Late in the run, they adjusted to a 5-20 spread with $1 ante on Stud I believe. Triple draw, stud 8, omaha high, and others were swapped in and out.

The novelty just wears off. Everyone wants to play NL holdem, no matter what they say.

thanks for the feeback guys...sincerely. maybe it won't be something of interest afterall. i'm going to get with the poker room manager again with some of your thoughts at the end of the week and i'll report back here with any other thoughts, etc.

Wynn had to put a stop to the 4/8 non-hold'em games as a management response from Al's ranting. Cathleen is trying to get them to get the games back and will probably succeed soon. (BTW, she agrees with Al, as do I, including his response, about the whole situation)

However a 40/80 mix which plays the same as Bellagio's now goes everyday at Wynn.

40/80 mix everyday? What games are usually in the mix and what time does the game start? Any info would be appreciated.
