Default Putting the clamps on at work

Got this in email yesterday...

<other stuff snipped>

[ QUOTE ]
IM will be restricted to internal <compnay name> use only and access to all external web-based e-mail will be blocked. (You may continue to use your <compnay name> e-mail to send e-mail outside the company). Attempted communications to external e-mail servers and IM communication outside the <compnay name> network will be blocked at the firewall starting next week.

[/ QUOTE ]

Standard? I've only been with three companies the last ten years, and have never seen a policy so restrictive.

Wow that is horrible. I think I would start getting hammered at work if I had to deal with that.

This is not at all what the title led me to believe this thread would be about.

Funny enough, I know where you work since one of my friends shared with me the same email from his company yesterday.

My company (big pharma) recently went to the same thing. It sucks, and makes me want to quit.

That's pretty severe in my experience. I can see it actually not having the effect companies think it will.
