Default Best place for a tourney/poker player to move

I dont know which is the right forum for this, and I come here most often so ill just post it here. Feel free to move it if its in the wrong place.

I am taking time off from school starting next semester and becoming a part-time poker player. Life in New York (where I currently live) is filled with distractions. For this reason, I want to move away for at least the first 6mths of my pokerplaying career.

I was wondering what the best place would be to move. I am looking for a pokerfriendly place to move where an 18 year old has a place to play nearby. I also want to live in a safe neighborhood that is not particularly expensive. I really don't care where in the world it is, as long as a person who knows only russian/english can get around pretty easily.

Any thoughts?

That definitely would be where I would go if I was 21.

UK is pretty good, taxfree for poker winnings, can play in the casinos at 18, and nice areas (depending where you moved to)

You can play poker starting at age 18 in Florida. Our laws here are really strange in regards to poker. They don't allow for more than $32 to be lost in any single poker hand so you won't see a wide spread of structured limit games (only see 1/2 and 2/2 here) and there are absolutely no NL cash games here. Tournaments are run here daily that have a wide buyin range and there are large number of Indian reservations in the state that run poker rooms in addition to the pari-mutuels that have been licensed. Living in the Ft. Lauderdale area I can pick from about 5 or 6 local places to play in a tournament daily and a few more if I am willing to drive about an hour. Buyins range from $50 up to $800 in most of the tournaments locally with the higher buyins running much less frequently than the lower ones.

The weather and surroundings aren't bad either. Right now it's sunny and about 70 degrees outside with very little cloud cover. The lows have been in the 50s and 60s. I was just in New York this past week and it was in the 40s all day long and 30 degrees at night already. NY1 news said snow flurries were expected on Thanksgiving. Snow? What's that? If you're used to the high cost of living in New York then you shouldn't find many places more expensive than where you are now. Florida is definitely less expensive than NY. Is it the best place for poker? I'm not so sure on that one. I don't know which other places allow you to play at age 18. I wouldn't move here from there, but that's my own opinion after living here for most of my life. I miss NY and would move back in an instant if the cost of living wasn't so high there.

The 18 thing makes it a little more difficult. Vegas would obviously be your first choice if you were of age. Otherwise, you can find some casinos in CA that allow 18+ in, but may not have the cardroom with the game selection/tourneys that can provide you with a living. With florida, it only seems to be good if you live in florida or just want to play. My best guess would be Turning Stone in upstate NY, although the rake on most games is pretty crappy there are plenty of donks to make money off of.

I don't understand some of these responses. Even if you are 21, the money is so much more deep in online tournaments these days, just pick somewhere nice and quiet to live with a low price of living index.

Unless you plan on playing major events that have decent blind and payout structures, I don't see the point. Most low limit (1K and below buy in) live tournaments are complete wastes of time.
