OT: Party\'s memory leak
For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about let me explain. When I first load up 8 tables everything works fine. After about an hour my entire computer starts to slow down and move sluggishly. The longer I play the worse that this gets and after a couple of hours it becomes a major inconvenience. What disturbes me the most is that after two emails to VIP they still deny that there is any problem with their software which suggests to me that they aren't planning on fixing it anytime soon. I'm curious to see how widespread this problem is and how many 8+ tablers there are. I'm posting this here because the forum has a high number of party multitabelers. Please only vote if you play eight or more tables.

Re: OT: Party\'s memory leak
Yea that sucks. You would think there wouldn't be too many memory leaks on a final piece of software like that. However, a program that big I would imagine it would be hard to clean up completely.

[/ QUOTE ] Memory leaks can be very hard to find, prove or fix (at least in the Java world, I'm assuming C++ even moreso). Party denied they were deleting every image off people's C-drives. This more obscure and unproveable by a factor of 100. |

Re: OT: Party\'s memory leak
yeah it's a huge problem for me as well. It's very strange though, when I 10 table STTs my computer freezes on me all the time, but if I play 10 tables of cash games it's no problem at all. Very odd.

Re: OT: Party\'s memory leak
I've experienced this too but I'm not sure it's a memory leak. Next time it happens go to Task Manager and check how much memory the client is using.
If it is a memory leak, a practical solution would be to buy more RAM for your computer. |

I doubt having too little ram is my problem, but I did notice it more on my 2.4 P4 1.2 GB ram Laptop. |

Re: OT: Party\'s memory leak
I have this problem as well and I don't even 8-table. It's not just a little bit of slowdown; my computer's performance takes a MAJOR hit.
I never had this problem before the big update. It hasn't improved with the little updages since then. |

Memory leaks can be very hard to find, prove or fix (at least in the Java world, I'm assuming C++ even moreso). [/ QUOTE ] That's not really true any more (used to be nearly impossible). There are now tools that can run executables, intercept all memory instructions at the machine level and keep track of every bit of data and find leaks automatically. For an outfit like Party, shipping an app that leaks memory is just gross negligence. I don't know whether it does or doesn't, though. You could find out easy enough. Just watch the memory utilization from the time of startup as you multi-table through a few sets. It shouldn't increase significantly. Note that simply closing the app and re-opening should free up any leaked memory. If you're playing sets, this might be a little annoying to restart between sets but it's probably better than losing money over it. eastbay |
