Default About to get no-trading fee; any quick picks?

Hi all. I have bout $2000 cash in my ETrade account. I am going to get dinged with a $40 fee because I haven't traded in the last 3 months. So I can keep my cash in cash, or I can buy something for the standard $15 fee and save the $40... in effect a net plus to trade (reasons why it isn't need not be listed). I don't want to sell any of the stocks I currently hold.

I am going to buy today or tomorrow at the latest. What are your 3 picks?

I will likely hold whatever I buy for at least 3 months. Note that holding on to the cash and taking the $40 hit can be a "pick".

In many cases it takes more than 1 trade, i think 3 is the min. Check to be sure.

Etrade charges $15 these days? And inactivity fees?

Ditch them.

Making a $2000 trade to avoid a $40 fee is not smart.

I just checked--it's still 1 per quarter.

I just checked--they dropped it to $13 for stocks. And yes, they do charge a $40 inactivity fee.

I understand what you are saying, however, getting charged $15 for a trade is less than getting charged $40 for not trading. Secondly, I don't have to use all $2000. I could buy 1 share of a cheap stock for example.

Whatever you do, do not do that!

What do you have in the rest of your portfolio? (use the 2K to diversify better)

Get another Broker....

But one problem with that is they may charge you $40 or $50 to move your account.....
