Default turn semibluff

40/80 game at the borg. okayish game right now but was great earlier.

3 limpers to me, I limp Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] on the CO, button (marco - solid reg. maybe a bit too loose w/ coldcalling but plays well in general) limps, sb completes, bb checks. 7 to the flop.

flop is Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

checked to me, I bet, marco raises, folded to me, I just call.

turn is the T [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

I check, marco bets, I think for a sec and raise...

yeah?

This isn't really a semibluff because if your hand isn't best you have pretty close to zero folding equity.

Not bad...but you not semibluffing here you betting what you think is a bets hand. There is almost no chance of him calling you down with a hand worse then yours or folding a better hand.

Loose-ish preflop, very ABC passive postflop. A hand earlier that I know Mr. Pink noticed, I raise KK UTG, two donks call, he calls in the BB.

Flop is Q94. He checks, I bet, donk raises, donk calls, he check 3-bets, I call, donks call. I'm confident he has AQ, 2-pair or a set.

Turn is a 5. He bets, I raise, donk folds, donk calls (JT), he looks unhappy and calls.

River is a 2. He checks, I bet to try to fold 2-pair, donk folds, he tanks for a good 15 seconds, mumbles, "I can't beat a set," and slowly calls with Q9s.

He can read boards and tries to read hands and in that context the T is a very bad card for him.

Also, Mr. Pink has showndown nothing but big hands and has been playing tight.

The problem is, he has some kind of better queen here most of the time (at least). And though he does like to stare at the board a bit and ponder, he usually ends up calling. In that case, you're just charging yourself to catch up. Plus, if you just call his turn bet here, he may check the river behind with better queens. You def have to bet the river if you improve as he won't do it for you if it is even remotely scary.

I didn't think a semibluff has to have substantial folding equity. I thought it was just a hand that if called, figures, then, not to be the best hand, but has a reasonably good chance to draw out to be the best; thus, by definition, close to zero folding equity? Or is it all just semantics anyway?

BTW, how come we haven't met?

It's all just semantics, but I assume the "bluff" part involves getting a better hand to fold.

I don't know why we haven't met, I'm free as a bird these days, except I'm pissed at you for selling out and joining the Dynasties of the world. Someone with such vast history knowledge must realize he's on the wrong side now.
