String bet ruling (Foxwoods ACT 3)
Is this really a string bet?
blinds 300/600 UTG limps, MP limps, BB checks flop: T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] BB thinks for a while before checking. . . checks around. turn: Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] again BB thinks before checking, UTG says "I raise", then proceeds to place 600 over the line before reaching back for another 1200 and placing that over the line. BB immediately calls string bet. Floor is called and without hesitation rules that it was in fact a string bet due to the fact that UTG said "I raise" when there was no bet to him. BB was obviously on a draw, the river blanked & an aggravated UTG pushes, BB folds. I thought it was interesting that because UTG said "raise" his 1800 bet was disallowed. |

Can't raise a non-bet, I think floor is correct.

I thought it was interesting because UTG's intentions were clear, he just screwed up by saying raise when there was no bet to him.

I thought it was interesting that because UTG said "raise" his 1800 bet was disallowed. [/ QUOTE ] no. he could have said "I like tacos", and then: [ QUOTE ] place 600 over the line before reaching back for another 1200 and placing that over the line. [/ QUOTE ] it's still a string bet. the bet is 600. |

Re: String bet ruling (Foxwoods ACT 3)
What if he said "I raise to 1800" put out the 600 then goes back for 1200 more. That would be okay right?

Yes, the verbal declaration counts since it came before any chips crossed the line.

IF there had been a bet in front of him of $600 and he said "raise," he could put out the $600 and then fiddle around until he figured out how much he wanted to make his raise. Of the questionable rulings you will sometimes hear from the staff of Foxwoods, I don't think this is one of them. |

Re: String bet ruling (Foxwoods ACT 3)
it is a string, if he says raise then puts in 1800 its still an 1800 bet wether he said raise or bet. you have to make one continuous motion to the pot be it with one hand or two and cannot go back to your stack,
unless 1. a raise of a persons bet is announced where that bet can be called before putting the raise in and a person can only go back to their chips at that time. 2. a verbal bet has been announced and enough chips have not been put into the pot. since that guy really isnt raising anyone his 600 bet is just that |
