77: A hypothetical
Table is the kind you wish you'd see more of: everyone likes to see a flop, because clearly they've got 2 cards and who knows what could happen? Postflop is reasonably aggressive -- bets and raises often happen with the eventual winner showing just top pair.
This post is a semi-hypothetical on playing a marginal hand in a somewhat aggressive game. I'm curious about people's plans during the play of a particular hand, and I've posted two versions of it to hopefully solicit suggestions on how to play in specific situations. Hand 1: 1/2 Hold'em (10 handed) Preflop: Hero is UTG with 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Hero calls, 2 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, 1 fold, Button calls, SB completes, BB checks. Flop: (7 SB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (7 players) SB checks, BB checks, Hero checks, MP1 checks, MP2 checks, MP3 checks, Button checks. Turn: (3.50 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (7 players) SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, MP3 calls, Button folds, SB raises, BB folds, Hero ... Hand 2: 1/2 Hold'em (10 handed) Preflop: Hero is UTG with 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Hero calls, 2 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, 1 fold, Button calls, SB completes, BB checks. Flop: (7 SB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (7 players) SB checks, BB checks, Hero checks, MP1 checks, MP2 checks, MP3 checks, Button checks. Turn: (3.50 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (7 players) SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, MP3 calls, Button folds, SB folds, BB folds. River: (5.50 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, MP3 raises, Hero ... Also, whether to bet the flop in either hand is also an interesting question. (I think leading the turn (and river in hand 2) is very standard.) |

Re: 77: A hypothetical
I bet both flops.
Hand one I call, You're gonna river a 9 and his 2 will be counterfitted. Hand 2 I raise. |

I bet both flops. [/ QUOTE ] Any qualifications on position or size of field? I'll bet this from LP for sure if it's checked to me, but with a big field and sitting in EP I often like to check and see how the action unfolds behind me first. (With a 992 board I'd feel comfortable leading from anywhere though.) |

With a flop like this, if I checked and it was bet, I check raise a LP bet. (heck if I'm feeling saucy, I check raise any bet) |

Re: 77: A hypothetical
I'm pretty sure I play these situations awfully, but I'll take a stab.
Hand 1: After SB's check-raise, I call and expect to call 1 bet on the river. I think I need a showdown to see if SB is slow playing a set of deuces or for some bizarre reason checked top pair on the flop (or maybe even Ax[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]). Depending on our opinion of MP3, I might even 3 bet to get him to go away and hopefully lock up SB so that we can check-check the river. Hand 2: I call. If I see the case 9 or 22, I'm fine with it. Even running into 88 wouldn't bug me so much. If Villain holds a higher PP then I'm making a note and considering the crying call as just the price of information. Betting the flop in either case requires a different kind of table than the one you described. If you've got a bunch of 'fit or fold' players then betting is good. If you've got players who will speculate and hang around to catch their overs, then I think you have to let them tell you what they have and go from there. |
