Unsolicited Staking IM
Here's a transcropt from an unsolicited AIM session I had while playing on Stars. While I am, of course, awesome, this struck me as a scam. Anyone had a similar experience? Did I handle it right?
him (11:08:45 AM): hey me (11:09:07 AM): yeah? him (11:09:11 AM): i was just wondering if you wanted to get in the $215 with me tommorow me (11:09:26 AM): who are u? him (11:09:29 AM): Ill buy you in, but if you place, we split 50/50 me (11:09:44 AM): do i know u? him (11:09:57 AM): yes, from PS me (11:10:38 AM): not really intereested him (11:10:45 AM): ok me (11:10:59 AM): unless u transfer 215 to me 1st him (11:11:26 AM): what do you thing i would do? not transfer it but somehow you would still get in? him (11:11:33 AM): Of COURSE i would transfer it first lol me (11:12:13 AM): it doesnt make sense that you would ask me, so unless u provide very compelling reason kim not interested him (11:12:32 AM): whatever, than your not intrested him (11:12:41 AM): I just know that you are a good player me (11:13:20 AM): well, thats notn compelling enbouhg him (11:13:31 AM): ok bye' me (11:13:37 AM): cya |

don't see how it could be a scam, but i didn't understand the nigerian fake cashiers check scam either.

Maybe it's a stolen credit card (as usual), then after you place in the tournament (possibly), he wants you to transfer via Neteller instead of on PS. Later, when PS finds out that the card was stolen, they take the money back from you. The "backer" has of course disappeared by then. |

as the guy above explains,
when pokerstars sees that the funds were transferred to OP, they will try to take funds back (maybe they will if he has the $, i do not know) |

It seems pretty complicated for a scammer and involves so many steps. First you have to trick someone into playing the tournament, then they have to win, then they have to agree to transfer money via Neteller. Seems unlikely, but you never know. |
