I will eventually get both but which one is best to start with if I'm only getting one to start with?

Re: Harrington 1 or Little green book?
HOH is great reading and you definitely should get that. I went to Borders last night and paged through the Green Book. I wasn't planning on buying it, but the bit I looked at seemed so good that I picked it up on impulse. I'm very excited to start reading it (plan on taking a shot at 10-20 NL at Bellagio when in LV next month). I'd get both.

Re: Harrington 1 or Little green book?
i've read hoh 1 & 2...i'm 75% done with phils book...
in my opinion i'd start with phil's book because it's a much quicker read and exposes you to alot of topics in a shorter time....then follow it up with hoh 1&2...hoh has more hand examples that will make more sense after a good base with phil's book... hope that helps |

HoH has a more clear tournament focus right from the get go (even though Phil seems focused on tournament strategy, much of his advice is applicable to cash games). Are you playing ring games or tournaments? If tournaments, I'd read HoH. Ring games? LGB. Both, HoH. If you're going to read HoH 1 for tournaments, you must read 2 as well. If you learn by working problems more than by just reading theory, choose HoH over LGB. Both books are essential reading in NL IMO. |

Re: Harrington 1 or Little green book?
I've got both too. Personally, I'd read HOH first then Phil's book. Phil's book touches on many subjects briefly, HOHv1 and v2 go much more into depth on specific strategies and things you should be thinking about. Both are good.

[/ QUOTE ] If this is the case, i think it would make more sense to read phil's book first. If phils book is a quick overview, you should start with that. Especially because harrington's is a 2 part book and the 1st one only covers the first half of tournament play. I have not read the LGB yet, but from what it sounds like it will set a good foundation that you can then build on with harrington's books. |
