Live Freeroll, KJo flops top pair from the button
I play with this group pretty frequently, and play tends to be a little passive. UTG+1 is a fairly conservative player when sober (which he appears to be at the time). Blinds are 400/800 (started at 100/200) and due to go up in 5 minutes to 500/1000. I have 4700, UTG+1 covers, I forget the other stack sizes. Action:
We're 9 handed, I'm dealt KJo on the button. UTG Calls, UTG+1 calls, 2 folds, HJ calls, CO folds, I call, SB folds, BB checks. 4400 in the pot, flop is: 9TJr BB checks, UTG checks, UTG+1 bets 2000, HJ folds to me - What's my action here? I've got TP2K with a gutshot here, but a conservative player has just bet half the pot into me when he knows I'm capable of playing back at him aggressively. I'm not too worried about an overpair since he didn't raise preflop, but I don't think he bets this with anything worse than a pair of jacks. What's my play? |

You are pretty short so I would conisder pushing PF.
As played I'd put it in on the flop. |

Re: Live Freeroll, KJo flops top pair from the button
I think preflop is a mistake. I wouldnt call for 800 on the button with KJo when all I have is 4700. I am interested in pushing preflop with so many in the pot already with alot of money there. I think I take my chance here. I think push>fold>>>call>>>>>&g t;>>>>>>>>>>>minr aise
Also, I get it in on the flop. Either way is fine. |

Re: Live Freeroll, KJo flops top pair from the button
I push preflop, and push flop as played. Less than 6 BB's i don't think we should be limping anything. Just push, and either you get a bunch of folds and nearly double your stack or you get called with a ton of dead chips in the pot and a decent hand. Easy push

Re: Live Freeroll, KJo flops top pair from the button
I'd raise preflop to about 1800 and call if someone shoves back.
Possibly not conventional wisdom but that's my call... Flop, Seems KQ is a hand he could limp with and would raise half the pot. If he's that tight is he raising with QJ, would he even be in the hand QJ!? Would he raise half his stack with AJ on that board? My gut is you are pretty fair behind his likely holdings, I'd fold. |

Re: Live Freeroll, KJo flops top pair from the button
When I say fairly conservative, I don't mean to suggest he's a nit. He'll limp with some weak hands at this table because he knows the table is pretty passive preflop, and he can probably see a flop for cheap and if he catches, he'll probably get paid. He's not playing complete and utter trash though, so I know when he bets, he most likely has something.
Also, 2k was half my stack at this point, but not half his. He was one of the big stacks at the table, but i don't recall how big (maybe 8k-10k?) and had me covered with a reasonable stack behind. |

Re: Live Freeroll, KJo flops top pair from the button
Input is appreciated, all.
RESULT: I shoved the flop, it was folded around to UTG+1, he called and turned over Q8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] for the straight. I caught two pair on the river, which wasn't enough to stay in the tournament. |
