Bar overcharged me...

i celebrated a friend's bday at a place called sharkee's in hermosa beach. i ordered two drinks, a newcastle and a gin and tonic for a friend. i paid the tab of like 12 bucks and tips 2 dollars.

i check my online banking today and find out they charged me 50 bucks.

your play?

note i'm in santa barbara now, about 2 hours from the bar.

Dispute the charge. Do you have a receipt? That would probably help.

wait a day or two and make sure that is the actual charge.

I've heard of some bars with minimum card tabs of as much as $150.

However.. if the policy was not posted, you're entitled to a refund.

Sounds like that is the amount that authorized when they ran the card which is pretty standard. Most likely the actual amount charged will come through within the next two business days.

I was completely annihilated and I walked up to the bar, and my friend was there too, we both ordered beers and gave the bartender a $20 each ($40 total). When she came back she gave us our beers and gave me no change and gave my friend $3 change (beers cost about 3-4 dollars here). My friend started so protest and I was like "nah man, it's cool." My friend was like "WTF are you talking about we gave her $40" "Nah, don't worry about it man". The bartender was like "Did I give you the wrong change" and I was like "No, it's fine. I've got it." and she walked away. My friend was pretty pissed when he told me this story later.

No bar charges 50$ for authorizations, or at least any that I have ever setup a system for/drank it. They either charge 1-2$, or they authorize for the cost of the tab, then re-run w/ tip included.

I've had this happen before, and then its corrected. Wait till wednesday to call the credit card. You have the receipt, right?
