Vista X64 and Poker Compatabilites
I am going to build a new system and am kicking around which OS I should go with. I am kicking around the thought of going with Vista x64 and am curious if anyone here is using it with good/bad results. I am currenly planing on Stars, and I use PT and Pokerace. I am trying to future proof this system a bit, since I am now an old guy with kids.

Re: Vista X64 and Poker Compatabilites
Why do you need a 64 bit OS? There isn't much point to it for Windows since there is so few applications that take advantage of it. More trouble than it's worth unless you really need it. And if you did you wouldn't be asking.

Meh. It's not worth the hassle of finding drivers that work and compatible software. We have a few guys on the board that run 64 and I don't remember any of them saying it was a good idea.

[/ QUOTE ] That may have been true about 6 months ago, but at this point, there is NO reason to not run Vista. The drivers are easily found now and 95% of all software will run w/ vista now. This is simply outdated info. HTH. |

SFC,
they're talking about 64-bit specifically. |

i apologise then. [/ QUOTE ] Nah, it's all good. Too many people are basing their judgements on outdated info is all and I think it's doing people a disservice. In Feb. etc, Vista (due to lack of quality drivers) was horrible and truly not worth it. Now, though, the drivers (save for Creative, for some reason) have caught up and you can find them for just about any/all that you'd need, this INCLUDES Vista 64. The big difference between 32-bit and 64-bit is the removing/upping of the RAM cap. W/ Vista 64, 4 GIG of RAM (or at least 3+) is ideal to maximize its use. Also, esp. when it comes to gaming and video rendering etc. the removal/upping of the RAM cap w/ 64-bit is EXTREMELY helpful. At this point, I just don't see the point of people sticking w/ a 32-bit OS when the majority of CPU's are now 64-bit. |

sfc,
you've just got yourself a baller new pc, right? did you go for the higher ghz dual core (E6850 or whatever) or the lower ghz quad core (Q6600 or whatever)? which do you think is better for massively multitabling poker, when you're likely to be running PT, PAHUD, Poker Client, MTH, and other stuff? |
