Limit poker - more money at table => better player?
I don't know if this is the appropriate forum, but I hope so.
I try to practice some table selection, and I wonder if it's fair to assume that when players at a limit table have a lot of money (like 40+ BB), is that an indicator of better players? I just joined a 5/10 HORSE table (we're in the H round) where all players but 3 have have more than 40 BB. One guy has 10k at the table and several others have about 1k. I don't see the point of joining with this much money. The table is ultra-lagtard-tastic with a couple of people raising and 3-betting every hand (3-betting 36o !). Coincidence? I think not... |

I don't believe you gain any information from someone's stack size. If you knew why they had an inappropriately large stack for the limit in question then maybe but there are just too many reasons. Some indicate the player is a fish and others give you no information. None imply he is a better player though.

Kidding right?
Sounds like an awesome table. I've found that usually the players with the most money on the table are usually prime donators who just happen to be on a good run. b |

I read it as someone who sits down with an amount they couldn't have possibly won. Otherwise my answer makes no sense.

it allows them to block out any distractions with going busto at the table [/ QUOTE ] You're assuming these players are actually thinking along those lines. Most aren't. Most are still donators. b b |

It's just from my experience those players aren't usually that good, but on a good run. Sure there are exceptions, but they still have to prove that they play well. I don't assume anyone plays that well. Simply because the greater majority don't. b |

Re: Limit poker - more money at table => better player?
The reasons I can see for sitting down with an outrages stack are:
Accidental / typo : Says nothing about the player Showing off : Bad player Good Player playing a lower limit because he is drunk or on tilt : Bad Player Got upset after a bad beat or taunting and bought in for large amount : Bad player With the exception of accidental all the others are a sign of a bad player. |

I'd say 1 and 3 are a sign of a bad player
