200NL live: play along with the nl noob, AJo
Brand new to table. Hero's fourth hand dealt.
Seems like typical 1-2 blinds, lots of limping. First limper has biggest stack. Short read is a loose player who doesn't like to fold. Can't tell yet whether he is lag, but likely a calling station/trapper who is hot tonight. Player in hijack is thinking player. Likely to be the most aggressive at the table. I figure he plays online and is at least semi-regular at the room. He has over $300. Button and blinds seem like average players. Hero is dealt AJo in CO with $180 stack. Preflop(8 players): fold, limp, limp, limp,Hero ? Some discussion on preflop would be great. Is this an easy raise and why? How much? And how would you respond to a new player raising this preflop with position on you? I had just flopped a draw from the button and ditched it to a big turn bet, only hand I played. |

raise for isolation/value/etc. I like these hands because
-there is little chance of domination based on pf thus far. -TPTK live = nuts -isolate down to maybe 2-3 players. Multiway, AJo isn't that great. I would raise to $16. |

Re: 200NL live: play along with the nl noob, AJo
absolutely raise hands like this in position in a loose/passive game. Ajo is not the best multi-way hand and a lot of the time you will see any callers check/folding most flops with a cbet.

I realize this preflop is elementary, but my greatest fear switching to NL is getting playable hands in the first couple orbits. What I fail to realize sitting at the table is: Nobody has a read on me either! |

Hero is dealt AJo in CO with $180 stack.
Preflop(8 players): fold, limp, limp, limp,Hero calls, button folds, blinds come along. Flop(6 players/$12): 3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Check, check, check, check, villain bets $15,Hero ? So I limped preflop with a hand that plays poorly multiway. I know better. Kind of makes for a lousy playalong, but it does get interesting on the flop. TPTK! How do you react to the lead from villain? |

Re: 200NL live: play along with the nl noob, AJo
Minraise/make it $30ish on the flop -- you usually have the best hand and don't want to price draws in by just calling. Also in live you'll still get calls from hands like J10 and the like.
If you get reraised I think you can get it in on the flop, because live players (read: fish) don't fastplay sets. If you get called check behind on the turn and call a bet on the river or value bet if checked to. |
