Default Obama/Clinton supporters: why should I favor one over the other?

They seem to have rather similar, although certainly not identical, policy positions, per This link . So why should I favor one or the other?

Which do you tend to like best -- Newfoundland ponies or Shetland ponies?

Excellent point...

People who prefer either of those two candidates have a bunch of reasons to do so. Experience, actual discrepancies in viewpoints, perceived discrepancies in viewpoints, they are viewed to be quite different on the war. Those are a couple of reason, mostly I think people decide based on who they like the most.

Its obvious. One is a black (sorta) man, the other a white woman (sorta).

I guess you should favor Hillary over Obama...She has more experience, both with our government and with foreign relationships.

I believe you should support Kucinich, as he will give you the largest welfare state with which to cure all the problems of the world.

[/ QUOTE ] I certainly do not intend to deny this. What I am asking is what is the reason(s) that individuals who favor one of the other hold to be decisive; that is, why should I favor one over the other? I'm not making an argument stating there is no reason, I'm asking for the reasons.

The simple answer is that Obama is more to the left than Clinton. He's more dovish, more liberal on social issues like the death penalty, gay rights and civil rights and more of a trade protectionist. He is also less friendly to big business, favoring proposals like drug reimportation and proposals to strengthen unions. There is also a perception that he's more honest than Clinton, making ethics reform a priority of his in the Senate.

You should support Obama because he's less of an establishment stooge. Still they're both fairly establishment politicians and in reality would differ little from the other if elected president.
