Folding AKo to big raise pre flop?
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (9 handed)
180 person $12 buy in UTG (t2845) UTG+1 (t1720) MP1 (t2155) MP2 (t4220) MP3 (t4305) CO (t3761) Button (t3468) Hero (t6140) BB (t3241) Preflop: Hero is SB with , . 3 folds, MP2 raises to t4220, 5 folds. Final Pot: t500 I have been at the table with the raiser for 20 odd hands, he has raised once previously only about 1000 with similar blinds. I suppose what was going through my head is recently I have gotten to this stage of tourneys recently with a poor chip stack and it really cuts down the chance of a good cash. Last night cashed 2nd in this same tourney for $400 cash. Is there anyone else who would fold this? I am not saying I would do this often and its not like I have seen this guy turn over AA or KK. Is this a bad move long term? Equally after laying this down, I slow played AA against three people, which needless to say got owned and I went out in 25th. I don't need an answer on that, I know thats a donk play - especially as I let 69d and J4o in which both would have beated me. |

Re: Folding AKo to big raise pre flop?
there are only very very very very very few exceptions, when you fold AK preflop - and this isn't one of them - not even close.

Re: Folding AKo to big raise pre flop?
Hmn, I was about to post a very similar question. UB $15 Bounty tourney ($13 + $2 bounty). I'd recently been moved to the table and hadn't seen Villain show down.
(Sorry about the semi-raw format, can't seem to find a converter for UB tourney hands.) (And sorry to OP for the slight hijack - although hopefully discussion of this hand will be illuminating too.) pwizard is at seat 2 with 18015. Lucky11443 is at seat 3 with 13735. EJAlmosWon is at seat 4 with 6355. pottsie is at seat 6 with 18520. DireWolf207 is at seat 7 with 18120. jcy1225 is at seat 8 with 9785. ras52 is at seat 9 with 6015. The button is at seat 7. everyone posts ante (100). ras52 posts the small blind of 400. pwizard posts the big blind of 800. ras52: Ks Ad Pre-flop: Lucky11443 calls. EJAlmosWon folds. pottsie calls. DireWolf207 raises to 5100. jcy1225 folds. ras52 ??? Of course I'm waiting for a hand to push with and this looks like it until the raise ahead of me, which turns my brain to mush, screaming "hey, I was going to do that!". With the limpers in he's presumably not stealing - at best I'm flipping, so... I should fold? |

Re: Folding AKo to big raise pre flop?
[x] People attack limpers with worse than AK ==> you're not "at best I'm flipping"
[x] There's a lot of "dead" money in there compared to you're 6K stack [x]+[x] = shoving is big +cEV |

Re: Folding AKo to big raise pre flop?
very simple rule...ALWAYS LOOK FOR A WAY TO GET IT IN PRE WITH AK IN STARS 12 180 PP TURBOS...this will make you money in the long run and not even close...
I say this from experience and with the results to back it up This includes mult way all in pots...you will see 4 way all ins with A 9 KQ 10 9 and 22 more often than you might believe |
