Who\'s The Pick?
I have the first pick in my fantasy baseball draft. I'm curious as to whom the forum thinks should go first. Is A-Rod the no-brainer pick? Anyone for Pujols? Others? Sell me on your guy!

Re: Who\'s The Pick?
your first pick isn't nearly as important as your next 10. flip a coin and focus on those.

Re: Who\'s The Pick?
Of course. It's virtually impossible to make a "bad" pick at the top. It is the middle of our draft that makes or breaks a team. We also use a pass system for a supplemental draft in July, which makes for interesting strategy. Still curious as to whom folks would take first though.

Re: Who\'s The Pick?
If I could, I probably would. I would much rather be at the end of the first round. (12 teams) No trading picks, though.

If you are going to keep the pick, I say take A-Rod, though you can't really go wrong taking Pujols.

[/ QUOTE ] all ten of those picks combined, yes. each individually, no chance. if you're drafting starting hands in hold 'em, picking kings over aces with the first choice is a much bigger mistake than choosing 87s over JTs later on. this is an unfairly extreme example (a-rod vs. pujols is not kings vs. aces, but it could be QQ vs. JJ), but the talent dropoff between available players is always steepest at the top, and if you pick sub-optimally there it will take several rounds to get it back. i take a-rod in a standard 5x5. basically the same fantasy value as pujols at a shallower position. |
