Default Stud/8 starrting hand

If I have (6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]) 6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] in LP and the action goes

2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] BI
J [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] folds
A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] completes
3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] calls
K [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] folds
5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] calls

then based upon what I have read, taking a pass is pretty standard, yes? I was tempted to play this multiway in a field of true fish but it seemed like to many of the cards I might need were gone.

What if no diamonds were showing? What if the 5 wasn't out?

Do you prefer to get this hand HU or multiway, or neither? Some might say it's a junky starting hand anyway that you open with late in an unraised pot.

Thanks.

Yeah it's a pretty bad hand and it's easy to get in trouble if you play it. I played hands like that for a while and I found myself losing big pots with them by picking up draws but not completing them.

A small pair with an A is a pretty playable hand, though.

Given the action you described, even with live diamonds and such, it's a fold.

If he has A's, you're a dog. If he or anyone else started with 3 low cards, then you're a dog to those hands, too, and you'd probably have to catch two perfect cards right away as you're basically trailing to both sides of the pot.

In the right circumstances, though (first one in, no low cards out, it's shorthanded etc.) your hand becomes playable, even raiseable.

When an Ace raises, fold pretty much any pair. Doesn't matter about diamonds, Fives, or anything else.

I prefer 664 heads-up unless another Six is coming.

Is this why it's a good hand to complete/raise with in LP in a narrow field?

For example, I think that I am making the right play to raise with such a hand in LP when someone with a high card completes. I want the BI to either fold or tell me he's strong -- and I want to isolate the high card and see what develops.

If a high card completes, throw your small pair away. Small pairs play terribly against big pairs.
