Default If sklansky is so good...

Why do i never see him cash in major tourneys? Is this a case of not being able to follow his own direction/rules?

Slansky knows what he's doing. No need to question the general idea that he is a great player.

ATM is right. Read his books and you'll get the picture.

His bracelets are in Draw High, Limit Omaha, and Mixed Doubles. He is not a great NL player. Can't imagine he could beat mid-high NL games online. He would beat all the big name NL/PLO players in Draw Lowball.

I've seen him at two televised no-limit Hold 'Em World Poker Tour final tables in recent months.

Sklansky has a firm handle on the math behind poker, but at high level tournaments (once you weed out the fish) EVERYONE has a pretty great understanding of the math. At this point it becomes a different question, it turns into who is the most aggressive, who has the best reads, etc. Understanding Sklansky's thinking is what separates decent poker players from fish, and maybe good ones from decent ones, but what separates the best poker players is something else, because they ALL know the theories.

Phil Gordon is the same way, I heard him talk about it during a tourney interview once. He said that he would rather be a poker commentator than be playing because he knows he'll never be the best player in the world, but he could be the best poker teacher in the world, and he likes explaining the game to people at home so they can understand and improve.

It was actually a really neat thing to hear, it made him seem like the nicest, most humble guy.
