I'm happy to be watching live sports of any kind at 4.30 AM.

Go China! Don't lose by 5 or more runs! yay.

edit: are the fans chanting E-C-Dub, E-C-Dub? That would be awesome.

Korea only beat team China by two runs. How disappointing.

I was pleased to see live baseball on this morning when I was getting ready for work. The Japanese crushed China. I am surprisingly interested in this...

Dude I won't know isn't Taiwan a province of China?

I thought only countries were allowed to participate in the WBC.

This is a controversial issue. China believes it's a province. The Taiwanese don't. Taiwan has full sovereignty and the island is (or at least was before the Iraq war) protected by US warships. They have not officially declared their independence and if/when they do it will potentially lead to a major military conflict between the US and China. To appease China they aren't officially recognized as a country by most countries or the UN.

I never thought the WBC was a great idea, but I'm watching a lot of it anyway. It's different and it has me curious.

What really stood out was the size of the players. A lot of the players were small, both in height, weight, and muscle. That was especially true for the Chinese. It wouldn't surprise me if those players had never lifted weights a single day in their lives. They looked like a bunch of skinny teenagers out there.

That makes for lower scoring games on average, but I tend to prefer those over slugfests anyway.
