Default NL25 flopped set, monster raise, what it mean?

Am i beat here or do I just remember it's NL25 and call?

Villain is 14/5 over about 600 hands. I have no big hands against him and I don't recall this stunt before.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

UTG ($45.10)
Hero ($25)
CO ($23.90)
Button ($23.55)
SB ($30.95)
BB ($25)

Preflop: Hero is MP with 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
1 fold, Hero raises to $1, 1 fold, Button calls $1, SB calls $0.90, 1 fold.

Flop: ($3.25) T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)

Fist pump and celebrate. But not too much, you don't want to time out before hitting call.

LOL, no man. I'm just used to working a little harder to get the cash in. I haven't been presented with these massive bets very often and haven't worked out what they mean yet.

Instacall. You're either slightly ahead or way ahead. You're 60/40 favorite to win against Jd9d. I'm not sure what I'd do with on overpair though. I'd probably fold unless villain was really bad.

Badly played overpairs, draws, random garbage. Sometimes they are monsters but they generally are moderate strength hands.

This is a call here. These bets typically represent a draw. If he had trip 10's would he really shove here? I can see a moderate re-raise, but not a shove. Also, it's more likely he would have re-raised with 10-10 pre-flop.

Given Villain's rockish stats, I think he's either got a strong made hand or a massive draw or he's on tilt.

But we've got the second nuts, so I think we instacall, hope it's not TT, and hope that a hand like QdJd doesn't get there without the board pairing.

I feel better about my hand than I would with KK preflop versus a 4-bet from the same player, but all the same this is one of those hands where I'm not really going to start celebrating until the pot comes my way at showdown.

Someone once made a post somewhere that helped me a lot. It said something like think of betting as if it's a conversation. You raise pf, "I've got something." He calls, "I'll see if I can beat it."

On the flop, you bet strong. "I've still got something good." He raises all in, "I don't want you in my pot anymore."

Do you really think he'd do that with a set? Some villain's will, playing reverse psychology, or a stupid "protect my hand" kinda way. But not many.

Don't just "remember it's NL25" and call -- snap call this at any level, from just about any, any villain. Even giving villain a range of sets only it's a call! And we know his range isn't sets alone.
