So I\'m helping someone get into SNGs from literally the ground up
He has $325 and is really willing to learn poker and try to be successful with it.
Unfortunately just a day ago he didnt understand the concept of blinds, what the river is, etc. I've started by letting him watch me play a set of $5 SNGs before I played the Sunday tournaments, and I let him watch an ActionJeff video on my account. Still though he's really new, and I mean like, really new. Try and remember how you approached poker when you first started and perhaps you might relate =) Anyways, whats the best method of helping this guy to learn? I am going to eventually get him into $2 and $5 SNGs which should be easy as pie and when he gets expert at those help him get into NL cash, but a lot of it obviously will be his work since it's his money. Where would you guys recommend he start? Is there a sticky thread which you guys have for beginners? I feel like there's a lot of resources available, but so much of it is for people already well versed in poker and not for people who are completely new. Thanks in advance. |

Start him off playing 2/3 tables of the 10 seater 3.40s. Just teach him the classic rock early , pushbot late strategy and he will win

Whenever he sees an all-in, enter the hands involved in the calculator. Very helpful IMO for understanding the basic logic behind aggressive pushing late (b/c some "bad" hands aren't as bad off against "strong" hands as most beginners would think). The Section in Lee Jones' book on the flop and how hand values change was very helpful for me as well as a total beginner. Just be sure to have him ignore the starting hand requirements (LHE, but still). |

Ed Miller, Getting started in holdem. [/ QUOTE ] Didn't realize EM had written a book for beginners. That's probably by far the best place to start. |

They're still adding new content, but it's worth a look. I was at roughly the same spot a year ago. I had the benefit of having someone (Sammykid13) basically holding my hand through the whole process of learning, so my advice to him is to play a lot of freeplay til he understands the basic rules, then start playing the $3 sngs + get sngwiz/pt + start posting and reading 2+2 all day long. |

i recommend electric shock treatment for whenever he plays suited connectors in a sng.
he needs to learn that "tight" means "real tight" |
