Old labtop, can i restore it??

I have this 5 year old labtop that works perfectly fine for what ineed, but once in a while it "freaks out". it used to be my friends so it has some spyware popus ads and those sorta things. I was wondering if there was anyway i could just erase everything on it and just reinstall firefox, fulltilt and my PT. Basically is there a way to complete clean it out and start all over again?

Even if it didn't "freak out," you should do this anyway, as it's not smart to play poker (or do anything really) on a computer with spyware.
