Line Check Versus Maniac
Maniac was 85/36/3 over 100 hands. He had already burned 2 buy ins. He had been firing double pot bet sizes regularly taking people off hands. I knew I wanted to play hands with him but was not getting the big cards to do so.
History: Hero recently dealt JJ raise to 28, value bet to the felt and was stacked by villain who had slow played top two pair!! Line check please. Re: Line Check Versus Maniac
Wait, what about the button? What's his deal?
This hand doesn't look good. On the flop, I think that c/c a big overbet from the NON-maniac guy with your flush draw is kind of fishy. Once maniac minraises and BTN calls, you have an easy call. The fact that you aren't jamming to protect against draws right now though pretty much tells these guys you don't have like TPTK/2pair/set. Keep that in mind (maybe maniac doesn't notice but the other guy might be reasonable). On the turn, maniac leads small and the flop overbettor calls - I think you should just take the great price and call. Your c/r probably won't get a ton of respect, someone may have just hit 2pair, and you just picked up a little reasonable showdown value. Are you bluffing with your c/r here or is it for value? On the river, he's got like nothing left as played, so it doesn't much matter. |

Re: Line Check Versus Maniac
Yeah, the turn raise is pretty spewy I think. You have good relative position on the maniac, just call the turn and see what's going on on the river. I'd be willing to call a big bet by the maniac as long as BTN folds. When he calls, it's an easy fold as long as he is some kind of reasonable. Reads on the button would be great of course.

Re: Line Check Versus Maniac
My thinking was HUGE implied odds. My image was probably vry tight. Certainly tighter than normally but only because of my position relative to the maniac. I had folded to many flops due to maniacs aggression. The turn was obv a semi bluff with plenty of FE considering my reads on maniac. I didn't think SB was betting for value but to protect a weak tpwk. I'm not afraid of variance if I think my instinct is right.
