Flop top two tiny pair, played back by a shortstack
Opponent just recently arrived and bought in for the minimum, posting two spots in front of the big blind. In half a dozen hands, he's played most of them, but none have been exciting post-flop.

He's got $2.45 left behind, and I figure even if he's got an ace, he's likely to put it in if I shove, getting 3.5-to-1 and figuring his ace alone is likely good enough. On the other hand, unless a 5 comes, it's going to be difficult to ever get away from this hand, given how little he can put in compared to the pot, and the likelihood that he could be playing an overpair. If I do just call, how do I play an ace? a 5? a spade? |

Yes of course push him all in... get the $$$ in when you're most likely to be in front!

Re: Flop top two tiny pair, played back by a shortstack
never, ever just call here. Shouldn't even cross your mind.
And you should have definitely considered a flop c/r, considering you're in perfect position for it. If UTG bets, and anyone calls behind, you can raise it up considerably after trapping some money in there. Though I rarely hate a b/3bet with a vulnerable good hand. If you're going to donk out for b/3bet, donk a bit harder too. 1.5 is good. |

Re: Flop top two tiny pair, played back by a shortstack
Yeah, it was a stupid move by me, because as I wrote in the first line after the hand, he's likely to call with just an ace, and I would like for that to happen. I generally play limit as opposed to PL/NL, so that's why my bet sizing is probably wrong. Turn card was a red 6, and I was pissed and check/called $1.25. River was a 4, making my boat, so I shoved, and he called with 66 (and left the table two hands later).
