I caught villain bluffing before and he called me a luckbox which makes me think he is a degenerate bluffer who will try it again (this is my experience). He reraised me a lot, and his small reraises meant weak hands, so I decided to defend with Q5s. I speculated a bit too much here preflop. It was a little raise, that's why I decided to call and he is able to do this with a wide range of hands.

I'm definitely raising this flop. That board is real scary. As played against this villain I'm pukingly calling the river.

I wanted him to bluff again. Maybe too scary board for that plan?

Although you have a really strong hand, this board has a ton of potential for him to outdraw you. I think you are a lot better off trying to catch him with TPGK on a dry board than you are trying to catch him with 2 pair on one like this.

To add some thought to this, it took me a few minutes to realize why I felt that I raise was so essential when he was likely bluffing anyways.

My reasoning is that there is really almost NOTHING that can come out that isn't a scare card for you, although you are almost undoubtedly crushing him on this flop.

Any card above 8, any heart, or any board pair all significantly damage your hand.

Actually, I MIGHT do this, but only under the circumstance that I was almost certain he would stack off here if he missed.

If you raise and play properly against a villain like this you can almost undoubtedly stack him if he has any draw. However, you knock out the hands that just missed completely and are virtually hopeless against your hand.

If you play as you did, you are basically guaranteed to double him up he hits his draw (this happens in either circumstance if he can't fold, but if he can fold his draw this is the safest approach), BUT you can still stack the air if he has "take every pot" syndrome.

So I've come to the conclusion that this if correct if you are confident he will still stack himself even if he missed completely.

He would play the same way as he did even if he missed everything, but I don't think he is crazy enough to call my flop push on a draw.

However, if I push and he calls on a draw, he makes a mistake. If I call and he sucks out, I make a mistake for not charging him the right price.

I had a pretty big reply written out but the more I'm looking at this the more I like it. My brain is kind of fried right now, I'll look back in a bit when my thoughts aren't gibberish.

But it is very risky for the reason you mentioned in your first post.
