Flopped nuts, put myself in a gross spot on the river
Bodog $109 tonight, t15/30 level.
Villain is unknown (2nd hand he's been at the table). I have t3170, he has t3195. Pre-flop: Hero is dealt 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] UTG goes all-in for t80, UTG+1 calls, Villain calls, 5 folds, Hero calls t50 in the BB. Flop (t335): T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Hero checks, UTG+1 checks, Villain bets t220, Hero calls, UTG+1 calls. Turn (t335 main pot, t660 side pot): 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Hero bets t450 (underbet due to misreading the pot amount!), UTG+1 folds, Villain tanks 10 secs and calls. River (t335 main pot, t1560 main pot): K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Hero bets t1000, Villain insta-shoves for t1420 more. Pot = (t335 main pot, t3980) Hero ? Also, comments on other streets would be appreciated. |

Definately checkraise the flop. Turn seems alright. Obviously call the river. I guess he made a backdoor flush.

I'd stick it all in on the turn, the pot is big enough in relation to your stack to pull the trigger then.

I would either lead out on this flop or c/r it. I'd bet the pot on the turn and shove river

Re: Flopped nuts, put myself in a gross spot on the river
I don't get why the river is a gross spot. The only thing that beats you is a backdoor flush.
The only big mistake here is not checkraising the flop. The board is too connected, and it will be hard to get action on the turn with the dry side pot. |

Re: Flopped nuts, put myself in a gross spot on the river
Thanks guys. As I was posting this hand I realized that Villain can confidently shove a lot of hands for value on this river, making a fold by me really bad. Which is of course what I did, because I suck at poker and overvalue/misinterpret timing tells. Villain had a set of 8's.
I agree that getting as many chips into the pot as possible on the flop is best due to all the scare cards that could come on the turn. Villain usually isn't bluffing into the dry sidepot on the flop, and a lot of combo hands (e.g. pair+gutshot) may give me action, so once I checked and got someone to bet I shouldn't have felt the need to disguise my hand so much anymore. CR-ing is probably fine, but I think betting out maybe works better to balance out all the times I bet out with a vulnerable hand and builds the pot faster the times Villain has a big hand. |
