Got a new job, need some suggestions...
So, I'm in Vegas and I just got a new job. Going to be selling cars over in the AutoMall at Hendersone Chevrolet. I just moved to Vegas about a month and a half ago and don't know many people out here. From what I've been hearing during my training this could be a potentially large downside as a large part of the business is networking and referrals. So, my question is, what would be the best way to go about getting my name out there and making some contacts? I have an order form to get some cards made up, so I'm going to do that, should I just go downtown to the casinos with my cards and chat people up at the tables and offer my card around? I don't know how most people would react to this. Any ideas would be appreciated. :P

Re: Got a new job, need some suggestions...
That's a tough situation to be in.
I think that if you go to where the locals go, not where the tourists go, you should be able to make some good contacts, but then again most locals that play are stodgy and ill-mannered (thinking Palace Station and such). I don't see you lasting more then 6 months. Sorry, but true. Tough business to be in without having the network already built. T |

Yeah, I figure it will be pretty tough, my only hope right now is that my landlord has been out here for awhile and seems to know every asian person in town so hopefully he can help me get the word out.

Might be a great connection, as long as he likes you. Don't be late on rent!!!

so basically your question is, "OOT, tell me how to do my job please?" [/ QUOTE ] Um.. No, that's not at all what I'm asking. I'm asking how to quickly make up for a huge lack of a network in a small time frame. I could stay on the lot and deal with walk ins for the first few months while I'm on guaranteed pay and try to build up my network that way, but I don't think that would be the best way to do it. I can take my card with me everywhere I go and hand it out at every possibility, which is a given, just didn't know if anyone here would know the best ideas to maximize this. |

I don't think the networking and getting my name part is the hardest part of the job at all... It wouldn't matter if I got people to come in if I couldn't sell a car, now would it?
Guess NT! didn't want to troll up my thread anymore so he moved it to the money forum? Hopefully you guys can help me with a nonmonetary-networking-related-semibusiness question... |

Personally, I would have worked for the Chopper (the King of Cars) - but your next best bet is:
