Personally, I would have 3-bet this preflop to $7ish, then led the flop for a little under pot.

As played, I would have bet the flop for like $4-$5 (I'm assuming you were trying for a check/raise? If you are called, I would have bet pot again on the turn.

You played it fine IMO, but you know yourself that you could easily run into trips here now and then, or mabye into a big combo draw...

Edit: Wait a min, missed that you checked the flop. I wouldn't do that.

im generally 3b-ing this pf unless stats are rly conclusive that i shudnt

as played...u missed ur c/r...o well. rest looks pretty.

im torn between donking here because i dont think CO CBs w/o an A often, and MP1 might as well not even b here cuz hes no where near that board.

i think i still like the c/r tho. probably 40%CR/60%donk

i have ran top 2 pair (AK 2x and AQ 3x) into sets for more than 100bbs tonight each time (roughly 700bb total, plus a whole bunch of other horrible losses), going to take some time off and release some steam. what a waste of opportunities..
ty everyone for advice.

Definitely bet the flop - $5 or so.

Min raise looks suspicious but I shove it like you did.

Am somewhat interested to find out what villain had here.

-Edit-

Set of 5's or 3's?

That's rough man, sorry to hear that. I'm sure you'll get at least half back tomorrow, though.

OTOH:

NL50 reminded me of 3/6 Limit. A [censored] twilight zone where the convergence of jackassery, odds and luck results in a personal variance such that ever finding an equilibrium is impossible.

Personally I'd have donked it on the flop. From the sounds of the post he had 55 or 33, but either way donking the flop gets some of those hands out of the mix and gives you less chance of being drawn out of. If you run into 55 its a cooler nothing you can do.

With the flush draw there however I know if my c/r doesn't eventuate and a heart comes I'll be in a worse position. Don't see enough value going for the c/r.

Apart from that, what hand is going to pay you off on the turn, which wouldn't on the flop, that doesn't beat you? You've got hands like AQ which if a Q comes it may pay you, but chances are they would get a bit of value in on the flop anyway. Other then that the only hands that improve that wouldn't pay you on the flop are drawing hands.

Bet for value before scare cards kill you're action from the weaker hands. Bet to get the draws or missed PP's out. If you get re raised always evaluate, but I don't think you'll get enough value from a check raise to risk giving a free card in this spot.

If he had a set, you could have played it differently with the same result. Like others have said, I 3bet pf and lead flop. Your line isn't bad, though, assuming you were check/raising the flop. Still, I'd rather lead out putting MP1 in a tough spot if he has a draw.

All of that said, at some point you will run worse than you ever thought possible. It just happens. But you'll also run hotter than you ever thought possible. And that will be fun. And profitable. If you feel like nothing makes sense, though, take a little time. Maybe drop down a level for a day.

thanks guys..
i decided to drop to NL 25 to regain some composure and now am just going to get some sleep... sick of going - 0.37ptbb/100 over the last 28K hands at NL 50 now.. what a disappointment. tonight definitely did not help that situation.

ah well i'll be back at NL 50 again when i stop steaming (Prob tomorrow morning lol)

oh and just for everyone's information, villain turned over AA for a set of aces lol... just my luck.
