lilholdem954 according to Sharkscope
I'm sorry if this has been brought up before, but:
Chad 'lilholdem954' Batista has said in an interview that he hardly knows what pot odds is, and otherwise made it very clear that he doesn't play a "mathematical" game. His Sharkscope stats for Pokerstars shows him ranked #1 for avg profits in 1-table (9 or 10 players) turbo SNGs. His average stake is close to $500, >2800 games total (didn't check how many % of those were 1-table SNGs, but he seems to play a [censored] of them). How the heck is this possible? I had the impression, from reading this forum among other things, that high stakes SNGs were absolutely peppered with players playing close to a perfect push/fold game, using ICM- and equity-calculators, to beat the players using "common sense" or "feel" or whatever. And especially so in the turbos. Still, that guy is ranked #1. This just doesn't add up, what am I missing? Anyone? |

Re: lilholdem954 according to Sharkscope
I think he has a good understanding of the payouts and how tight he should be pushing and calling, just like he knows how much is in the pot and how much he has to call when making a profitable play. Good players also have an intuitive idea of the right play, I believe Stu Ungar actually didn't understand pot odds, if I recall correctly a story told by ray zee.

Ask DDbeast or bigjoe or other stars >200 regulars how he plays
His interview could have been a level? |

Re: lilholdem954 according to Sharkscope
Where is this interview? You really don't need to know pot odds to play SNGs as long as you understand ICM.

Re: lilholdem954 according to Sharkscope
The interview was on www.cardplayer.com under the Card Player TV section in the Online Zone.
Jennifear's article of p5s discusses how playing a LAG style might be better than playing a TAG style (as conventional SNG wisdom would suggest). She goes through some of the math and makes some arguments as to why this may be the case. In the case of Chad, obviously his LAG style is profitable in MTTs (seeing as he's ranked #1 on P5s), I would assume he uses the same style for SNGs and just has a feel for push/fold pushing/calling ranges from playing thousands of them (and from later stages of MTTs). |

Re: lilholdem954 according to Sharkscope
LilHoldem definitely doesn't play SNGs like he plays MTTs.
