Default $33 Stars, UTG 8x WTF?

Blinds $100/$200

UTG has $8000
I'm UTG+1 with $4400 and AKo

UTG opens for $1600.

I don't have much of a read on him. What do I do?

Hmm could this be a fold?

I'm basing this on a fairly reliable read that a raise like this is in my experience a mid or low PP almost 100% of the time, and one which isnt going to fold to a re-raise.

If you agree with this read, we have no FE, and because we are fairly deep, it would be -EV to be in against a lower PP. (like -305EV i think)

I think is pretty unlikely that anyone else comes along for the ride with AK, QQ+, and only the QQ adds any positive expectation to our hand. So the fact theres still others to act is a neg not a pos...

That said, I struggle to fold AK anyway and I think I have a higher EV on future hands witha big stack, so despite everything I say I probably gamble here.

I'd shove usually. His big raise usually indicates that he doesn't want to be blown off the hand so he's "giving himself odds." Small or middle pp seems more likely and here you don't really want to gamble, but you you know...maybe you do.

His other possibilities are hands like AQ and AJs and against these you DESPERATELY want to call. I'd only fold if you feel you have a read otherwise or are such a powerhouse against this table that you can play hellmuth style and wait for only great opportunities on all ins.

Afterall, mtts ARE easier with a big stack.

Jammy,

i agree with you that this is a medium or maybe small PP most of the time, but you can't be sure - say it is a PP in 70% and in 30% some other stuff like AQ,AJ,KQ....

I think shoving here is +EV anytime

I think the odds are probably much more like 90%/10%, but I see your point, the odds he has something you dominate is certainly not zero and should have an effect.

I'd spite shove and laugh when he folds (I've seen it before)

if he calls we're not in bad shape against what typically is a small-medium pp

I don't think that you're dominated/dominating him very often...and (from experience) u can't remove KK;AA from his range either. With ~20BBs (and no antes) racing prob isn't EV+ here. As lame as it sounds, folding might be better than shoving.

I shove here 100% of the time, but I don't shy away from coinflips.
