Could you ever laydown KK here?!
Hello guys,
the following hand I observed yesterday in a local $200-live-tourney. 25 players started, ten were busted, the blinds were at 40/80. The "hero" in this hand seemed to be a normal player, having done nothing extraordinary so far. The villain was a young guy with sunglasses who played very few hands so far. Ok, letīs start with what I observed: Hero has about 5k, Villain has slightly more than 2k. Table is 7-handed, Hero is UTG and makes a min-raise to 160. All fold, Villain in SB flat-calls, BB folds. The flop comes: Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Villain checks, Hero makes it 300 to go, Villain calls. The turn comes 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Villain insta-pushes (about 1.7k)! Hero thinks for about one minute, mumbling with his himself, than talking half to his opponent as "youīve got 2-pair? A straight? A flush-draw?", finally folds and shows black kings(!!) while making the following comment: "At least you had a flush-draw and I donīt want to risk this.". I assume this to be a horrible fold!! For the following reason: a flush-draw would be out of question, it is terrible to fold a hand as the 4:1-favourite. How probable is a made straight? Remember that Villain played very (!) few hand so far - would he really have called a ep-minraise from the button with something like 97? If he had the (nut-)straight - would he have pushed the turn? This would have been completely senseless in my eyes. As well (but after all not impossible) if he had made a 2-pair. I think the most likely holding of Villain is either a flush-draw or complete air while trying to sell the straight. What are you thinking about this? |

Re: Could you ever laydown KK here?!
i don't like folding here, but it has to be a better play than min-raising utg with KK

Re: Could you ever laydown KK here?!
if he has the nut straight he is a donk
this looks like a draw - maybe with a pair i think KK is in front here most of the time |

Re: Could you ever laydown KK here?!
Yeah this is a pretty clear call. You really fear a hand like 56 the most here. He can only have a straight or set if he's a very clever player trying to look like a draw.
Very likely he picked up a two way draw of some sort (pair and flush draw or some such) and has decided to take a stab. I'd say two pair is about equally likely with a hand like AQ (now he moves because he's scared of draws). In balance, a call, but this is the kind of fold you see a lot in live tourneys. Onliners tend to play well enough to make the call. Alas I remember the good old days when online players were weaker than live ones. Long since passed. Btw, I don't mind the miniraise with KK, but it's gambly and you've got to be able to play well, which this guy probably couldn't. dez |

Re: Could you ever laydown KK here?!
i think i'd call... but then again, i probably bet more pre-flop
to push out stupid hands like 9-7s... then after the flop, nothing scarey, another huge bet, like he did... ... but then, I gotta fold after that turn... I'm thinking he has trips at least and pushed because the board was looking too draw heavy. then again.... maybe he only has a pair of queens.... aurgh... tough decision... so.... survey says FOLD. |

Hate the mini raise but sure hope that I get to play against both people. Hero is too weak tight and don't know about villan but my notes after this hand will be golden.

hero also invites this crap by sucking at raising preflop.
