Default dedicated servers vs managed servers

Either one will run Windown server 2003 and will allow you to run various programs (like umm minesweeper) using remote desktop right?

Do you mean hosting packages? That's all I understand from your title.

Managed servers usually don't allow you to run arbitrary programs, or use administrative functions like remote desktop. And you may have problems with SSL (in case you wish to play secure minesweeper). You probably want a dedicated box where you can do what you want. Perhaps VPS (virtual private server) might be a viable and cheaper option.

OK, so if I get a dedicated server that is not managed I should be able to download a game from the internet on my new server and play that while connected using "remote desktop connection"?

Sorry if I'm a noob+thx for the help.
