Default Why you can\'t fold AK preflop HU (100BB stacks)

25/50 to make the math simple:

Dealt to hero: AKo (6 Max)

UTG open to 175, Hero makes it 600 on Button. UTG makes it 1400.

UTG is a tight TAG and reraises to 1400. We know his range is: QQ+,AK

If we fold we give up all equity in the pot 1275(0%). Our 600 + 600 he called once we reraised + Blinds of 25/50.

If we shove we have a 38.84 chance of winning vs AK+, QQ (if he calls everytime). This gives us 3884 of Equity. So we lose $1116. In this case going all in as opposed to folding makes us $159.

Now lets assume our oppent is even tighter and can only have (KK+, AK+). Vs this range we have 37.057% equity. In this cost folding saves us $30 over going all in. But, we can basically never be this sure of our oppents range.

So once you 3 bet with AKo, folding because a big mistake with (100BB stacks).

Basically once you 3 bet with AKo you can't fold. Most people have learned this emprically but I found the math intresting.

I also didn't proof-read this post as I did the math for my own benefit and decided to share my findings. Disregaurd the numerous spelling/grammar errors.

Would you ever fold JJ preflop? How about 1010? I know that QQ+ is basically a never fold HU.

[/ QUOTE ]Aside from the actual math which I didnt check, the likelyhood of 4-betting is not the same with all those hands.

Not saying you should be folding AK PF btw, just answering the question.

good2cu,

I always intuitively felt that I couldn't fold here, but now I know the math supports it. Thanks.
