Default Acting on a tell in a big pot

2 terrible limpers and I raise red JJ from the HJ. Bad/loose/passive/gambler cold calls from the Button, SB folds, BB calls, limpers call.

5 to the flop of:
K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Checked to me and I bet. Button asks the dealer if it was checked to him, dealer has to point to my bet, then he just calls. A friend of mine who's been playing poker for a living for a long time once said this is one of the most reliable indications of strength. 2 players over-call.

Turn blanks off. Checked to me and I bet intending to insta-fold if the button raises. Pot is too big and our information is too unreliable to run another line, right?

I would check behind... don't know what 3 people are drawing to on a KK5 board. Probably not all to the flush. why bet if you know he is going to c/r and you are going to fold. Go for a free jack then.

In this game they will call the flop with a very wide range looking to hit a pair or stay in contention for the pot if I give up with something like AQ.

I think I'd fold the turn if button raises even without any sort of tell.

My line here is usually fold, sometimes call depending on people and table conditions. But that's besides the point.

In general at limit I would only use a tell to change my decision if the decision is very close except for things like calling instead of raising.

Say villian has a 'strength tell' on the river when I make two pair. Maybe I call his bet instead of raising. But there is no way I'm folding regardless of what he does.

I'm not sure how reliable a tell this is from someone who probably isn't paying attention to the game anyway. I don't think we should lean too heavily on the "information" when making a decision, especially in a pot this big.

villain is anxious to get money in on the flop.

there's a sliver of indication when he asks if it's on him. it's unconscious on his part, but should be evident to you he's ready to put in some action.

bet/fold on the turn is fine.
