HUSNG: how to handle end game
hello, i suspect that this is a noob-question.
i've hardly played any tournaments, sngs etc. therefore i'm not used to all the sng-terms. so i've played some husngs lately, but i don't know how to play when the blinds rise and both stacks shrink. i know that there is the icm for 'regualar sngs'. is icm also applicable for husngs, or how do you guys decide if calling your opponent's all-in is correct... edit: i searched through heads-up-forum, but was not successful. |

Look for "sage" in the sticky thread.

Re: HUSNG: how to handle end game
Hi,
I too would like help with this area of my game,i want find the article on sage using the search does any one have alink? It really can hurt your win rate when you end up with large blinds relative to stacks, esp when your opponent is a weak player, turns it into much more of a crap shoot and reduces your edge if you cant finish him off quickly. Ive noticed alot of good players raise 2xbb pflop,to put pressure and not commit too much in case opponent pushes. Can anyone outline other strategies when blinds are realy high? |

Re: HUSNG: how to handle end game
Start raising to 2.5x the BB during the level before the blinds go up. When you hit 50/100 or whatever, you can still raise to 2.5x and (assuming you're not a donk) you can have some maneuverability.

Re: HUSNG: how to handle end game
Once it gets to like 120 if your opponent has no balls you can just start smashing all in with anything that has decent equity against random hands and let destiny decide.

Re: HUSNG: how to handle end game
I'd minraise at 50-100 and raise 3x in 10-20 and against most players at 15-30 (stations I might raise less or more, it really depends what kind of a station).

Re: HUSNG: how to handle end game
re-reading mathematics of poker, for like the 900th time, it looks like minraising at 50/100 when your stack is above 10 blinds is good, unless out of position.
once you get to 10 bb effective stacks, jam/fold becomes optimal. this what i've done over my last gazillion hu sngs and i'm in the green in Pokertracker at the 50/100 level. although sometimes i wonder if i could have not pushed A2/Q8/K9 etc and just limped since i know many of my opponents will not raise my limp without a big hand. but i hate flop decisions, even in position, when stacks are really short, so i jam/fold at 10bb and less. mathematics of poker assumes your opponent is equally skilled, which is rarely ever the case at my stakes. so i don't know. jam/fold is easier though and i make less mistakes that way, even though it might be lowering my winrate; but with 10bb stacks, what can you really do? you know what i mean? there's no room for silliness. |
