Default Folding set on dry board, deep stacks

We were playing our regular home game of 50nl when this hand came up. The game was 7 handen when it was folded to me in Co+1, and I raised it up the table standard 4bb with 22. The button, who plays 200nl online regularily and is a very solid palyer, calls and the blinds fold. We go heads up to the flop . Effective stacks 250~BB deep. The flop comes down K72 rainbow and I cbet 3/4 of the pot and he comes over the top with a near pot sized raise. I reraised to 50$ and he shoves. I naturally call and he turns over 77 for a better set.

This hand has bothered me for some time now, because I can't think of any other hand that he would have besides 77 in this situation. Is there any way to fold bottom set here? And if not, how deep should you be?

Just call his reraise, your 3bet allows him to get away from Kx (so your missing value).

You probably still go broke, but at least you played it optimal imo.

I think you played it fine to be honest. I think AK, could be part of his range here, and with such a dry board you had to do wht you did. Also in the case of if he did have AK, you don't want scare cards, because you will be losing value in the future.

Like already mentioned, calling his C/R is >>> than 3-betting.

TBH I think I can get away from this given stacks. W/ middle set, we're obviously never ever folding...and if he played KK this way, take the cooler. Given your read that he's solid, this is almost always 777/air (and I don't think this is air very often at all after you showing so much strength by 3-betting).

OP described villain as "very solid". He like never shows up w/ AK here.
