Default A short Banking and Casino credit Rant....

Part I:

Sold a piece of dirt yesterday and got a tidy sum wired to my bank acct. Wife maintains separate acct at different bank. Both are large, well known institutions. I have a private banker who makes sure that anytime I deposit anything I never have "held funds" or any other bullcrap like that.

So I go to put some money (think 2 buyins) in my wifes acct. Personal check. They want to put a 15 day hold on the money. WTF? Then I'm told that if I get a cashier's check the hold will only be 10 days. WTF? This is just a rake. So I go to my bank and ask for the cash and they don't have that much for one customer. The bank has no real money- its just all "on paper." WTF?
I may just wire funds tomorrow, but this experience was bogus.

Part II:

Then I decide that I should boost my credit line at my local casino. I've been playing there for 9 years. Havent played the pit for over 6 years though when I discovered the concept of EV. Well, they want to know what I do when I take out a marker cause they don't have any tracking on me. Hmmm. I play poker. Not good enough. (Standard, I know, but it still rails me) So instead of increasing my line, they basically tell me I can still cash checks but can't take out markers anymore. Good thing I called. I'm thinking that since I offer credit to the employees of this casino everytime I fix one of their eyes that perhaps they should all pay me up front and they can bill their insurance themselves. Equitable?

All casinos do this with poker players. It makes little sense to me. Poker is the one game that the house is absolutely 100% going to win. A player could get lucky and bust them playing dice or blackjack, but never at poker. WTF?

yeah, this is purely theorhetical.

and maybe this is a BBV thread, but I assume the ELDF populace has experience with this sort of thing.

How much cash is the frickin bank supposed to have on hand anyway?

In LA, I could usually count on getting $25K in cash instantly. But after the first time I got that much, my banker (private banking division of national bank) very politely indicated that for withdrawals that big, I'd do better to call 24 hours in advance to make sure they could cover it. Now that I live in Minneapolis, my banker asked me to call if I need more than $10K.

BTW, insurance companies are far worse than banks, and it's not close. Although BofA might be right there with the worst of the insurance companies.

Apparently less than 2 buyins. What do you want us to say? "Wow, you're really mildly inconvenienced there."

The other day I was driving home from the grocery store and there was totally a red light that I was not legally allowed to drive through.

Assume that they'll have $100 - $125k for a day's operation and you're normally +/- $25k everywhere except large branches in major metros.

It was posted here before, casinos make very little money (comparatively speaking) on poker players compared to table game and slot players.

As for banks, how's this. I had a "private banker" thing at Citibank. Personalized service and such. One month, I accidentally spent a little too much and overdrafted. They tried to call me, but I was away from the phone at the time. I tried to use it to buy something small (like $5) and it was declined. I figured I must have spent a little too much and try to correct it. I go to the ATM. Card doesn't work. I can't make a deposit. I can't even check my balance. The card is turned off.

So I go home and check the on-line banking. Nope. My on-line ID is turned off and I can't access my account. I try to call the bank, but the Citibank customer service guy can't help me because I'm a "Private Bank" customer. Dude can't even tell me my balance. Think about that for a second. I sign up for "Private Banking" to get specialized service. Instead I get less service? I can only contact them during banking hours even though the regular banking customers can contact someone by phone nearly as late as they want.

So I finally reach my private banker and find out the problem. I'm overdrafted--by $1.55. They treat me like a criminal and shut down all my banking priveleges over $1.55.

I want to go to the bank the next day and close my account. But I can't. That's the account tied to neteller and my neteller withdrawal is frozen in mid-air somewhere. If I close the account, I have no idea what'll happen to the money. So I deposit $1.56 and keep the account open until Neteller finally processes the withdrawal (7 months later).
