Default When to post

I notice a lot of folks when sitting down in a middle limit game, wait until after the button passes to post. Why? Ok, I can understand it if you only have to wait 1-2 hands...But I see guys wait 8 full hands before posting after the button. The post (1 SB) just doesn't seem that onerous to me. Your thoughts Please...

But you don't notice it in higher or lower limits? Bizarre.

Some people just like to pay one blind instead of 2, and they like to be in position when they post. I don't think it matters much at all; either wait until your BB, or post in the cutoff. I can't imagine why this is an issue for you either way.

I notice it at all limits, but because I only play middle limits, that where I see it. I don't really care why, I was just wondering whether I was missing something

I always come in behind the button. It's cheaper and I have better position. But I don't think it makes that big of difference.

I like the straddle UTG as my post. It lets people know I'm there to gambool.

Unless I am in one of the first couple of spots, I just post and then say "I didn't come here to watch you guys play poker" Then when the action comes to me I look at my cards and if not absolute trash I raise. Results have been pretty good.

If you come in as the big blind, you're paying 1.5 small bets (assuming the small blind is 1/2 the big blind) to see 9 hands (assuming a 9 handed table). This equals 0.1666667 small bets per hand.

If you post behind in the cutoff, you're paying 1 small bet to see 6 hands. This equals 0.16666667 small bets per hand.

So take your pick.

I think the difference would be if you are not familiar with the players, posting behind the button gives you time to observe.

Which one gives us the bigger edge then? Getting 3 more hands or having position/money in the pot for one hand?
