Default Shortcuts to Calculate Your Equity (PNL)

Hi everyone,

I'm about 3/4 through PNL and enjoying it a lot. It's funny how a good book just really gets you thinking about poker and builds the confidence just knowing that you're learning a lot of new things. One thing I have been a culprit of in the past is playing too mechanically and thinking pretty haphazardly about what my opponenents may be holding...

My question is, what shortcuts do you use you figure out your equity once you have put your opponent on an acceptable range? PNL says that you can firstly think of the extremes - the hands you crush, and the hands that crush you, adding hands thereafter such as draws and what not - adding or subtracting a percentage here or there as you go along until you come to an estimate...

I'd really like to hear your method of calculating your equity in a pot as quickly and accurately as you can.

Thanks in advance!

Its a sense you get from using stove a lot and looking at what equity you have in some common spots like overpair vs c/r from tag/nit on 356 board with a fd. My advice would be put some common spots like this in stove and guess what your equity is vs a sensible range, and then run it. Practice a few of these a day and you'll get a hang of it.

PS. Dont forget preflop.

Yup, what carnivalhobo said.
Get pokerstove or equilator and just check out your intresting hands in there.
Learn to know the equitys you have against ranges like an overpair against top pair with flushdraw, .. stuff like that.
